| Online shopping malls make the world a smaller place | | Posted Friday, May 05, 2006 9:07:03 AM by Rose Martins | Online shopping from a virtual shopping mall is becoming more and more popular. People prefer to shop in the comfort and quiet of their own homes, and are willing to take a chance in purchasing an item that they haven't physically seen or touched.
Most online shopping malls have very tight security systems, protecting shoppers from the dangers of fraud and credit card theft, and protecting themselves, the online store, from hackers and thieves. Most online payments will be checked and confirmed before the purchase is approved and sent off to the customer.
The internet allows some great discounts when shopping at an online mall. It's easy to research the required item, and to determine which online shopping store or mall is offering the best deal at the best price.
Online shopping malls also bridge a gap, allowing the world to access a store that before was limited to those living in the store's geographical region or city. If you could not physically get to the store, you could not shop there.
This has all changed. The only limitation of an online shopping mall, is the scope of delivery. Some online shopping malls and stores will only ship within their continent, while others will ship world wide. The world is literally now your oyster.

| | | Frightened shoppers flee smoke-filled Mall | | Posted Wednesday, February 07, 2007 3:09:50 PM by Blog57 Team | | STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. -- The Staten Island Mall was evacuated last night after an electrical fire near a loading dock filled one wing of the New Springville shopping mecca with acrid smoke. No one was injured, and officials said the Mall, which did not reopen last night, would be back in business today. The fire was confined to an electrical room near the loading bay between Macy's and the main entrance, which faces Richmond Avenue. The Mall's alarms first sounded at about 6 p.m., when traces of smoke first started appearing in the Macy's wing. By 6:20 p.m., the Fire Department had been notified, and 10 minutes later the facility was being evacuated by police officers. As smoke filled both levels of the Macy's wing, shoppers used their shirt-sleeves, hats, hoods or napkins to shield their noses from the strong smell.... | |

| | | Los Angeles - Corner of Art and Commerce in Los Angeles by Gehry ... | | Posted Monday, January 29, 2007 1:11:37 PM by Blog57 Team | | HOW to find meaning in a centerless world? For a half-century, that has been the question facing the strip of corporate towers, cultural landmarks and undeveloped lots known as Grand Avenue in downtown Los Angeles. Time and again the avenue has been the focus of grandiose proposals by civic leaders who dreamed of transforming it into a cultural Acropolis. Angelenos watched the progress from the comfort of their suburban enclaves, mostly with bland indifference. That all began to change with Frank Gehry's Walt Disney Concert Hall, completed in 2003, which raised the level of architectural ambition for Grand Avenue. Next month the Los Angeles City Council and the county Board of Supervisors will review revised plans for a retail, residential hotel and entertainment complex that may reveal just how willing the city is to address the deep social rifts beneath the area's newly polished surface.... | |

Berno Charlemond, 23, died moments after he got into a fight Sunday afternoon with Jesse Cesar and Fregens Daniel, both 21, causing a panic among holiday shoppers crowding the Boynton Beach Mall. "They just happened to be shopping here at the same time and decided that this was the place to settle their disagreement," Boynton Beach police Chief Matt Immler said Tuesday. "And this could have happened anywhere." Daniel held Charlemond in a bear hug, threw him down and punched him with Cesar's help, police said. Cesar allegedly then repeatedly shot Charlemond, who was with his girlfriend and her children.... | |

| | | Officers Enforce the Law in Shopping Mall Parking Lots | | Posted Friday, December 01, 2006 1:15:43 PM by Blog57 Team | | At the heart of the shopping madness in Ashwaubenon, public safety officers patroled the parking lots around Bay Park Square Mall and surrounding shopping centers. They had plenty to keep them busy. Lieutenant Jody Crocker didn't care about discounts or deals on Black Friday. He was cashing in on bad drivers. Action 2 News rode with Lt. Crocker to see what the busiest shopping day of the year looked like from a law enforcer's point of view -- before shoppers could hit the store. "So far pretty good, but I always know this day is not over," Lt. Crocker said. A lot of people braved the crowds on Black Friday to save a few bucks. But was it worth it? That depended on where you parked. Shoppers who created their own parking spot shouldn't be surprised to find a yellow tag -- not the discount kind -- on their windshield.... | |

Security at the mall has attracted scrutiny since two armed robberies occurred near the mall parking lot Nov. 1. One happened at the rear entrance to the Belk department store in the mall; the other occurred at the ATM machine at the Ehringhaus Street branch of Wachovia bank, which fronts the mall.
