Shop, shop, shop and there's no need to drop
Posted Tuesday, January 31, 2006 1:29:38 PM by Rose Martins

More and more people are opting for the choice to shop at home. Shoppers are making use of the online shopping facilities and home shopping catalogues and tv channel networks to select items and make their purchase.Home shopping

It's a comfortable, an easy and a convenient method of shopping. When home shopping facilities first became available, it meant paying a higher price for the convenience of shopping from your home. But this is no longer the case.

In an attempt to remain a competitive option of shopping, home shopping websites, catalogues and channels are now offering discounted prices on select, if not all, products. Home shopping catalogues are extensive glossy paged manuals, sporting pictures and details of every product imaginable.

Shops spend a small fortune on the printing and distribution of their catalogues, but it sure pays off. Not all home shopping catalogue companies will deliver to your home. There are certain home shopping companies that prepare your purchase for collection from their warehouse.

Home shopping clubs have also become popular, offering members all sorts of perks and discounted items. Some home shopping clubs require a minimum purchase per month, while others allow you to purchase at will with free of minimums. Basically, there is nothing you can't buy from the comfort of your home. Home shopping is now offered by all spectrums of the retail market, from groceries, to clothes, to electronics and so much more.

At the Consumer Electronics Show today, Sears and IBM (NYSE: IBM) unveiled a prototype 3-D showroom called the "Sears Virtual Home," which resides on an IBM "island" in the virtual world of Second Life. Sears' early prototype store is meant as a showcase of basic features of what might be possible in using virtual worlds to transform consumer experiences. The initial store allows consumers to experiment with changing the color of the cabinets and countertops in a virtual kitchen, explore 3-D versions of various home theater set-ups and learn how to organize their garage by virtually customizing storage accessories. Eventually, it is anticipated that Sears' customers will be able to use "avatars" — 3-D virtual representations of themselves — to replicate their exact room dimensions and experiment with redesigning their kitchen, garage or home theater by selecting appliances, tools and furniture that fit those blueprints, using the immersive, 3-D environment....

SIR Tom Hunter has again broadened his retail stakes, after his investment vehicle West Coast Capital spent some £23.6 million buying a major stake in home shopping company Flying Brands. Previously holding no stake in the Jersey-based flowers-to-nostalgic-music company, West Coast yesterday said its subsidiary, TBH Trading, had bought more than 7.5 million shares from Flying Brands' two largest shareholders, giving it a 29.9 per cent holding. In April, Hunter completed a £311m takeover of Britain's largest garden-centre company, Wyevale, and when he emerged as a major shareholder in Dobbies Garden Centres in June, shares in the Edinburgh-based company rocketed. ....

Multi-channel home shopping: email marketing opens doors
Posted Wednesday, November 15, 2006 1:13:58 PM by Blog57 Team
Following my presentation at last weeks ECMOD event on email marketing, I noticed that most home shopping and e-tail email marketing strategies centre around offering discounts or promotions. This is despite the fact that one of the major benefits of email marketing is that it is measurable. You can use this information to learn and further refine your communications. After recently moving into our new house, Ive been keeping my eye out for any bargains on home ware. This weekend, I found both the answer to over-reliance on promotional based marketing and extra storage in our bathroom. It was delivered with Saturdays copy of The Sun.Amongst the numerous pages dedicated to Sir Alexs 20 years at Manchester United, was a small catalogue for Argos. Serendipity led me to pick it up and flick through the pages. Before I knew it, Id found something that would look good in the corner of our new bathroom....

Motorola Shopping for a Middleware Company?
Posted Wednesday, November 15, 2006 3:13:33 AM by Blog57 Team
Davis Freeberg submits: Almost two weeks before retailers prepare for the shopping frenzy that surrounds black Friday, Light Reading reports that “several industry sources" have indicated that Motorola may have started their holiday shopping early and are rumored to be in the market for an IPTV middleware acquisition. Middleware is the software that allows set top boxes and cable operators to talk to each other. While I won't pretend to understand the intricacies behind the technology, I do know that it typically involves coordinating DRM, electronic guide data and the software interface on a DVR, with the back end cable and IPTV systems that are required to bring television into your home. By bridging the gap between the home users and the cable operator, middleware providers allow cable and IPTV services to seemingless communicate with the signals that you receive to that hot new HDTV DVR that sits on top of your big screen TV....
